St Mary’s Thistle -  is most well known for it’s ability to protect and improve liver function. It is able to detoxify the liver when damage has occurred from overuse of drugs, poisoning, both plant based & chemical and damage due to worm infestation. It can also speed up the regeneration of liver cells. Excellent herb for spring tonic. If poisoning is suspected start using  immediately.
Slippery Elm powder – is an indispensable herb as it has so many uses. As it soothes the digestive tract it is wonderful for scouring, especially in calves & older cows for gut ulceration, and colitis. Externally it is great for poulticing where a drawing effect is needed, just mix with castor oil or marshmallow root. It is high in mucilage and is very nutritious.
Dandelion Root – Is a great general tonic but is specific for any condition affecting the liver and or kidney’s. Dandelion root stimulates the liver to increase bile production while the leaves are a powerful diuretic. Dandelion is rich in Potassium, Magnesium & Calcium making it a great natural electrolyte. Also very helpful in overcoming illness. It is high in Vitamins A, B, C & D. Contains more Vit A than carrots.
Devils Claw Root – Is used for it’s analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. Often referred to as the herbal “bute”, it is kind to the stomach, stimulates healing and will not totally mask pain so as to protect the animal from further injury. It can be of great assistance where there is pain or inflammation particularly in degenerative joint disorders. DO NOT USE IN PREGNANCY OR IF GASTRIC ULCERS ARE SUSPECTED.
Raspberry Leaf –  is used as a reproductive aid, it can help increase the likelihood of conception. It helps strengthen and tone the uterus muscles which assists with contractions. Encourages cleansing of afterbirth and reduces the chances of haemorrhage. Usually given a couple of months before breeding and then again for the last 4-6 weeks of pregnancy and one week after the birth. Raspberry leaf tea mixed with Slippery Elm powder can assist with scours.
Fenugreek – A legume that was used by the ancient Greeks, they fed it as conditioning hay. Today it is mainly the seeds that are used. Fenugreek is one of the main ingredients in curry powder and is almost identical in chemical composition as cod liver oil (but more palatable) it is a very nutritious food that will tempt the fussiest of eaters. It is recommended as part of a natural diet. Fenugreek is specific for the lymphatic system, it helps in preventing infections, aids in gastric disorders, ulceration, high cholesterol and poor milk production. Garlic – An excellent herb for protecting against infection and is good for any respiratory disorders. It helps the development of natural bacterial gut flora that is needed for a healthy digestive system. It can help guard against intestinal worms & viral infections. Garlic is rich in Sulphur which is excreted through the pores, this may help deter biting insects & flies. This herb is particularly good when combined with it’s sister herb, Fenugreek as the two herbs

Marshmallow Root – Has a demulcent, emollient and diuretic action. Both leaves & root can be used for coughs. It will help with the expulsion of mucus and will help soothe the airways. It is also an excellent herb for the digestive system where there is irritation or inflammation such as gastric ulcers or colitis, this is due to it being high in mucilage. It is also very helpful with inflammation in the urinary tract such as cystitis. Can be used as a poultice in combination with slippery elm powder.
Meadowsweet – Has many uses, it is one of the best herbs for the digestive system. It is specific for gastric ulceration, it will help protect the digestive tract and reduce excess acid. It has a gentle astringent action that will help with scouring. Meadowsweet is the herbal asprin without side effects. It has an anti-inflammatory action as well as being antiseptic & diuretic.
Mullein -  Used in the treatment of conditions affecting the respiratory tract and lungs such as coughs & colds & bronchitis. It will clear congestion, help when there is difficulty in breathing, soothe irritated mucous membranes of the throat and lungs and help strengthen the lungs & respiratory tract after infection.
